Eltham District Vet Services
From pioneering research into Leptospirosis in the ’60s to Neospora research in the ’90s, we have been leaders and innovators. We introduced the first ultrasound scanner to Taranaki farms and now scan thousands of sheep and cattle each year.
We service all farm animals as well as the family pet and provide a comprehensive 24-hour service. Whether you need treatment for a sick cow, cat or dog, sheep scanning or a planned whole herd health program, we are your first choice for Veterinary service or advice. We have a fully equipped companion animal surgery for routine operations and late night emergencies.
We are keen on continuing education and host farmer seminars and short courses to help them in their farming business. We have hosted seminars on Mastitis, Lameness and a half-day seminar titled “Spring First Aid” for new entrants to the farming scene.
Sponsorship is an important part of our business philosophy. As a community based organisation we feel a responsibility to put something back into our local community. As a result, this year we will sponsor school calf days, rugby, soccer and squash clubs, dog trials, the local Art Gallery and Theatre and the local golf club just to name a few.
Every year we offer a scholarship to a 4th-year veterinary student at Massey University. The Michael Higham Memorial Scholarship runs for the final 2 years of that student’s studies and includes a lump sum cash payment as well as a daily allowance while he or she sees practice with us. The scholarship is named after the late son of our previous CEO, David Higham who was the instigator of this award. We see this scholarship as an investment in the future of rural veterinary practice.
